Move over Bollywood, the most powerful films this season were shot entirely on smartphones, by the women of Chembur's own bastis.
Ten women from ten Mumbai M-East ward bastis - toilet operators, homemakers, sanitation workers spent 18 Saturdays at CORO India's office in Shell Colony, Chembur, learning filmmaking. Their feature-length documentary just had its public premiere at Regal Cinema on April 28.
"My family knew I was making a film, but they didn't know I'd be on screen," grins 35-year-old Vaishali Mane.
With zero scripts and zero prior experience, these Mast Mahilas framed interviews, visualised shots, and captured lives rarely seen on camera, their own.
The result? Raw. Real. Unmissable.
Chembur, this one's yours. Be proud. 🥹🎥
